The X Factor Finalists 2008 - Hero MV
The twelve finalists from the fifth series of TV talent show The X Factor in the United Kingdom released a cover of the song on 27 October 2008 for the Help for Heroes and The British Legion charities. The release was backed by, and originally suggested by, The Sun newspaper.
Upon its release the single was expected to reach number 1 in the UK., on November 2 it did so. It is also the fastest selling single of 2008. As of October 27, the song is currently the best-selling single at HMV, and at the top of Play.com’s download chart and the iTunes download top 100. Online retailer Amazon.com said it had sold out of the track in just a few hours. The song sold 100,000 copies in the first day of release and sold 313,244 copies by the end of the week.
Due to the X Factor’s popularity in Ireland, the song went straight to number one on the Irish Singles Chart, knocking Pink’s new single “So What” off a three week reign to claim the top spot.

The Promise
“The Promise” is the nineteenth single by the British girl group Girls Aloud, and the first single to be taken from the band’s fifth studio album Out of Control.
The song is notable for its 1960s influence. “The Promise” has been called “a 60s-influenced pop gem given a contemporary Girls Aloud twist”, and “more interesting than the average retro-pop nugget.” It has also received comparisons to Girls Aloud’s previous single, “Can’t Speak French”.
According to official midweek sales, “The Promise” is looking to enter the UK Singles Chart at number one, outselling Pink’s “So What” nearly two-to-one.
Track Listing:
01. The Promise (Radio Edit) 3:42
02. She (B-Side) 3:23
Another week, another record-breaking jump to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britney Spears makes a near-maximum 96-1 rise with “Womanizer,” returning to the top of the list for the first time since her debut single “…Baby One More Time” hit No. 1 in January 1999.
Heidi Range won’t mind if her band don’t get to No.1 with their latest single given the chart’s current high standards. Sugababes Heidi and her bandmates are currently at No.4 with ‘Girls’ while Pink sits pretty in the top slot with ‘So What’.
She told the Daily Star: “We’ve always got to No.1 with the first single off an album recently.”
She added: “But with calibre of what is out there, I don’t mind. I’d be gutted if it was something rubbish.”
